Come to our Sake and Sushi Night on Thursday 16th September: £10 for sushi platter and sake cocktails!

To launch our new Japanese menu, on Thursday 16th September 2010 we will be hosting a special Sake & Sushi night, where guests can enjoy a night of sake cocktails, sushi boxes and geisha glamour.

Head Chef Zhengdong Bai has created a menu for Japanese food lovers.

He says, “I love orthodox Hokkaido seafood sushi. The new menu will include mixed seafood sushi rolls, lobster sushi and salmon salad. I am also trying to make kinds of sushi to suits the British taste, for example, sushi wrapped with deep fried duck dipped with sweet and sour sauce.” The Oriental will also be introducing Sake and sake cocktails. Japanese sake (rice wine) is the second most popular drink in Japan, after Beer. Sake is an important part of Shinto religion and Japanese culture. Zhengdong Bai says, “There are many varieties of Japanese sake. The light sake can be with salads or light food and strong sake can be with seafood, meat or fruits. Sake is good for the stomach, it is said it can be useful for beauty and losing weight.”

Guests can also enter a competition to win tickets to the Birmingham Royal Ballet’s production of Romeo & Juliet. Celebrating a strong and growing relationship with Asia due to successful past and forthcoming international tours to Japan, The Birmingham Royal Ballet has offered us four tickets for the Sake & Sushi night. Diners at The Oriental will have the chance to enter a competition and win tickets to see the company’s forthcoming and much celebrated ballet performance of Romeo and Juliet. Which runs at Birmingham’s Hippodrome Theatre from Tuesday 28th September to Saturday 2nd October 2010. www.brb.org.uk
